Art Appreciation

Taking a step back further to revisit the yesteryears of the Aloha State pre-WW2, right at the heart of the Capitol district in Downtown Honolulu.

Erected in front of the Ali'iōlani Hale stands the gold-leaf statue of King Kamehameha I, founder and first ruler of the Kingdom of Hawai'i in 1795.

The 'Iolani Palace, featuring an American Florentine architecture, was the seat of Hawaiian government and the royal residence of the reigning Crown since King Kamehameha III. The last ruler to occupy was Queen Lili'uokalani prior to the overthrow by the Americans in 1893. Thus, the relinquish of the Queen's power and the end to the 98-year monarchy. The territory was annexed as part of the United States and was then admitted to statehood by President Dwight Eisenhower on August 21, 1959.

Guided tours to the palace are available. Book online.

Last stop of the museum spree is the Honolulu Museum of Art. Now although tardiness isn't really a good quality one should possess, but I have to say, being late may have its perks. *wink wink* 😉 The museum operates until 4:30 pm daily. It just so happened I arrived from Pearl Harbor 45 minutes before it closes; because of this, admission was given to me for free. Entry fee is $20 for punctual adults, by the way.

Here are some of my favorites.
