House Fauna

Nestled between the beautiful beach of Waikiki and the glorious heights of the Diamond Head, the Honolulu Zoo is home to animals of over a thousand diverse species; mostly mammals, reptiles, amphibians and birds featured in three tropical ecological zones: the African savannah, the Asian and American tropical forests, and the Pacific Islands. Its 42-hectare park is the only zoo in the United States granted to the people by a sovereign monarch.

📍 Park Shore Waikiki

🎶 If there's a place you got to go, I'm the one you need to know. I'm the map, I'm the map, I'm the map. 🎶

Ring-tailed Lemur (Lemur catta); Madagascar

Black-handed Spider Monkey (Ateles geoffroyi); Central America, Colombia, Mexico

African Crowned Crane (Balearica pavonina); Africa

Bongo (Tragelaphus eurycerus); Africa

Siamang (Symphalangus syndactylus); Sumatra Indonesia

As volunteers arranged food for the gorillas at a high level of difficulty, I earnestly asked "Why?". The girl who looks and sounds like Miley Cyrus answered that "These are to imitate the tropical environs and to let them do what they usually would do in their natural habitat".

Slender-tailed Meerkat (Suricata suricatta); Southern Africa

Giraffe (Giraffa); Africa

Grant's Zebra (Equus quagga boehmi); Africa

Blooper: My left thigh had cramps, but the photoshoot must go on. 😅
